2016 Budget Breakfast
The Property Council of Australia is hosting its annual Budget Breakfast on the 25th May 2016.
Property Council’s NT Director Ruth Palmer said the Budget Breakdown is designed to give our members and guests a first-hand look into what the government has forecasted for the Territory.
“With a Territory election in a few months this event is not to be missed” Ms Palmer said.
“The Budget Breakfast will give the business community an opportunity to listen and to ask questions of the Treasurer about his budget.
“The Territory is undergoing some major changes and developments with the Developing the North projects, NEGRI Gas pipeline, and the “Boosting our Economy” stimulus package.
“I, like most Territorians, are interested to hear what the Treasurer has planned for the Territory moving forward.
The Northern Territory Government has spent over $0 million this financial year, as part of the $1.5 billion infrastructure program. $33 million has been invested in infrastructure projects last month to upgrade National Parks and coastal reserves, sporting facilities and infrastructure.
“Our Tourism sector has provided a significant boost to our economy and we need to ensure that we continue to invest in tourism related infrastructure.
“When we think about Tourism in the Territory, we typically think about Kakadu, Uluru, Katherine Gorge, Litchfield National Park, and Kings Canyon, but for the Tourism industry to grow, we also need to significantly invest in the amenities around our urban areas, in particular the Darwin City Centre.
“Tourists demand a great experience in the bush and in our cities. The tourism related amenities in the Darwin City Centre need investment.
“The Top End has the opportunity to become the premier destination for Defence History in Australia, we should take advantage of this opportunity now.
“We need to look at the University Education sector as an opportunity for growth, and in particular, international students.
“The wide majority of international students that will consider Australia as a place to study will demand a high level of amenities and they want to study in urban environments.
“Some of this work has already been identified in the Darwin City Centre Master Plan and we hope to see the Territory Government fund some of these projects in their upcoming Budget.
“It is important that the NT remains the best place to live work and play and that our great lifestyle is preserved and maintained right across the Territory.”
