The Property Council of Australia today expressed concern at the NSW Government’s decision to pull the plug on the existing approach to redeveloping White Bay which meant the private sector had spent millions of dollars on an ultimately futile process.

Jane Fitzgerald, NSW Executive Director, said today that serious questions needed to be asked about how this process went so wrong.

“This is the second time in recent history that a RFP process has been shut down by the government, the first being Central Barangaroo, creating delay, cost and uncertainty,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

“The government needs to carefully assess what is going wrong with these large scale master planning tasks because it’s the private sector who is paying for the failure.

Ms Fitzgerald said the private sector was best placed to deliver excellence at White Bay and there was nothing in the government’s announcement that suggested otherwise.

“The people of Sydney deserve the best possible redevelopment at White Bay and today’s announcement puts that possibility at serious risk,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
