Victoria to fund Western Distributor

  • September 06, 2017

$1.46 billion will be allocated by the State Government over four years to complete the Western Distributor road project, after the Federal Government rejected a request for funding.

The $5.5 billion toll road will connect the West Gate Freeway to Citylink and the CBD via a bridge over the Maribyrnong River and a new tunnel under Yarraville.

The State Government has committed to providing $2 billion to the project in total, with the rest of the funding to come from CityLink tolls and Transurban tolls placed on the new road.

The State Government has said it will continue public consultations on the project’s final design. The Property Council welcomes additional infrastructure spending on transport, however cautions that the final design should not negatively impact on current or future connectivity requirements at the Port of Melbourne.
