The Property Council of Australia today welcomed the commitment by Federal Labor to provide $150 Million towards the University of Tasmania’s Northern Expansion.
Tasmanian Division President, Sam Hogg praised the commitment reiterating the importance of the project.
“The Property Council acutely recognises the importance of the economic stimulus that the project will deliver for the Northern Tasmanian region.
“An estimated $220 million expansion creating up to 500 jobs during construction and enabling further jobs into the future will transform our city and region,” he said.
Tasmanian Executive Brian Wightman also recognised the leadership of the State Government in signing a Memorandum of Understanding.
“The Property Council of Australia along with University of Tasmania and the State Government have made their positions extremely clear regarding the importance of this project.
“The north of the state is not experiencing the economic growth clearly evident in the south of the state.
“We must all work together and grasp this opportunity with both hands.”
“The Northern Expansion will deliver continuous economic growth along with the much needed encouragement that aspirational Tasmanians wishing to further their education require,” he said.
