Spectacular Queensland projects in the spotlight

  • August 28, 2017

From the University of Queensland’s world-leading Global Change Institute to Brisbane Airport’s international terminal redevelopment, and from the transformation of Stockland Townsville to a $500 million master-planned community at Parklands on the Gold Coast, 20 spectacular Queensland finalists are in the running for prestigious national property awards.

The 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards celebrate leading practice within Australia’s property development and investment industries.

Queensland Executive Director of the Property Council of Australia, Chris Mountford, says Queensland’s development industry can be proud of its commitment to innovation and excellence.

“One of the world-class projects in the running is the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland, which demonstrates how buildings can be producers, rather than consumers of natural resources. The carbon neutral Institute is a finalist in two categories,” Mr Mountford says.

“The $45 million facelift of Brisbane Airport’s International Terminal – with its quintessentially Queensland flavoured departure lounge, is an impressive gateway to the state. It is competing in two categories.

“Parklands – one of the largest urban renewal projects ever undertaken on the Gold Coast – is a finalist in the KONE Award for Innovation category, for its pioneering funding model, while transformation of Stockland Townsville is in the hotly-contested Yardi Award for Best Shopping Centre Development Award.”

All Queensland finalists are competing for the industry’s most coveted prize – the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year award. Managing Director of Rider Levett Bucknall Queensland, David Stewart, says that a total of 136 finalists across 18 categories will be vying for awards this year.

“We are proud to present these awards, which shine a spotlight on Australia’s largest industry – an industry that generates 1.1 million jobs, and employs more people than the manufacturing and mining sectors combined,” Mr Stewart says.

Rider Levett Bucknall has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present this awards program since 1982.

National award winners will be announced at the 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, to be held in Sydney on Friday 3 June 2016.
