For the first time in WA, the Property Council has compiled a directory of retirement villages and land lease communities across the state which provides a starting point for people thinking about their housing options later in life.
“There are currently more than 200 retirement villages and land lease communities across WA. For those about to embark on retirement planning, by entering seniors accommodation, the decision of where to live can be a complex and frustrating one,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.
“The directory will make finding suitable accommodation quicker, easier, and more convenient for seniors and their families as it provides a comprehensive list all in the one place,
“By 2025, there will be 5.1million Australians over the ages of 65. Today’s retirement living industry has transformed in recent years to meet the needs and wants of the next generation of retirees.
“Today’s retirement living sector is a modern industry that can offer residents a resort lifestyle including, swimming pools, spas and gyms while also offering care facilities to allow residents to age in place. The range of housing options and services available also provides for a diverse mix of needs, offering everything from facilities to entertain the extended family to boutique shopping and dining experiences.
“The directory, which is available online free of charge, has been compiled by the Property Council of Australia and TPG + Place Match with assistance from members of the Property Council WA Retirement Living Committee to ensure all information is as accurate and up to date as possible.
“The directory enables seniors to compare a range of factors including, the number of bedrooms available, the communal facilities on offer, whether the village offers aged care and whether an emergency call system is available.
“For many, retirement although marking the end of working life, means the start of a new phase when seniors can begin to embrace a more social and active lifestyle, taking up new pass times with a reinvigorated focus on health and wellbeing.
“This directory will make that transition a smoother and less stressful process for WA seniors and their families,” Mr Iacomella said.
