The Property Council will announce a new partnership with Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA) to raise awareness and much needed funds at an event focusing on senior women leaders in the financial services sector at the new offices of EY in Sydney tonight.
Nearly 200 women will gather to hear from Ming Long and Sally Hermann – women with long and illustrious careers in the financial services sector – about their personal leadership journeys and insights. They will also hear from Paula Benson, Chair of Ovarian Cancer Australia, about the new partnership.
Property Council NSW Executive Director Jane Fitzgerald said the NSW Diversity Committee of the Property Council had decided to support Ovarian Cancer Australia as an organisation that focusses on improving outcomes for women with this disease which still has very low survival rates.
“Each year in Australia around 1500 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and more than 1000 die from the disease.”
“Around 75% of women are diagnosed at an advanced stage and currently only 43% of women with ovarian cancer will be alive five years later.”
“We need to ensure women can be diagnosed earlier when they have an 80 per cent chance of being alive and staying well five years later.”
Ms Benson says the two organisations will work together to make a positive difference to the lives of those impacted by ovarian cancer.
“We are thrilled to forge this partnership together to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer in the community and to help reduce the number of women who will die from this devastating disease.,” she said.
