Property Council Launches 2017 Women in Property Mentoring Program

  • September 18, 2017

The West Australian property sector has come together for the third year to promote women into leadership roles through the launch of the 2017 Women in Property Mentoring Program.

“The industry has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality on company boards and the long-term development of women’s careers,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.

“The program has grown significantly since its inception in 2015, with 17 mentors and mentees from WA’s property sector embarking on the five-month program in 2017.

“The program focuses on women who are aspiring to leadership positions in the property sector and matches them with senior leaders within the industry.

“The property industry has made a raft of changes in recent years to promote gender diversity and equal opportunity. However, the fact remains that women are heavily underrepresented among CEOs and General Managers in the sector.”

“This program will help the participating women prepare for and address professional challenges while helping raise the mentors’ awareness of how they, as leaders of this industry, can help women change and navigate a male dominated corporate culture.”

“Last year’s program was a huge success, with both mentees and mentors taking away a wealth of learnings and applying them to their day to day roles.

“The Property Council and program provider Serendis is committed to doing what it can to overcome the gender imbalance in the property industry and ensure that the talents of women in property are recognised and rewarded equally to their male colleagues,” Mr Iacomella said.

Mentees are from the following WA companies: EY, Hassell, Mirvac, CBRE, LandCorp, Access Housing, KPA Architects, Scentre Group, Frasers Property Group, Bankwest, APP and Charter Hall.
