Property Council Launches 2016 Women in Property Mentoring Program

  • September 06, 2017

The West Australian property sector has come together for the second year to promote women in leadership roles.

Through the launch of the 2016 Women in Property mentoring program the industry has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality on company boards and the long term development of women’s careers.

The program has grown significantly since its inception in 2015, with 22 mentors and mentees from WA’s property sector have embarking on the 5 month program,” Property Council WA Deputy Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.

“The program focuses on women who are aspiring to senior leadership positions in the property sector and matches them with senior leaders within the industry.

“There are some incredibly capable women in senior roles in Western Australia’s property industry. However, the fact remains that on the CEO and General Manager-level, they are heavily underrepresented.”

“This program will help the mentees prepare for and address professional challenges they face while helping raise the mentors’ awareness on how they, as leaders of this industry, can help change the culture.”

“Last year’s program was a huge success, with both mentees and mentors taking away a wealth of learnings and applying them to their day to day roles.

“The Property Council and program provider Serendis have dedicated themselves to doing what it can to overcome the gender imbalance in the property industry and ensuring that the talents of women in property are recognised and rewarded equally to their male colleagues.”

Mentees are from the following WA companies: LandCorp, Access Housing, Hassell, BankWest, Cameron Chisholm & Nicol, Colliers International, CBRE, EY, Frasers Property, APP, Scentre Group, Cedar Woods, Mirvac, AMP Capital, Hawaiian.
