The Property Council of Australia is delighted to announce that Matthew Kandelaars has accepted the position of Victorian Deputy Executive Director.
Matthew brings valuable political and planning experience having worked with the Deputy Premier and Planning Minister in South Australia and as a commercial lawyer in construction and major projects. Matthew has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Adelaide.
“Matthew’s deep political experience and understanding of the planning frameworks that drive the property industry will be invaluable as we advocate for reform on behalf of our Members,” said Victorian Executive Director Sally Capp.
“We have a significant policy agenda as we head into an election and a new political term thereafter.
“We are focused on ways in which the Property Industry can proactively engage with government and the community to help manage of our unprecedented population growth here in Victoria through increased supply of diverse dwelling types, good design outcomes and better infrastructure to drive the economy.
“Matthew’s skillset and capability will lead our efforts for effective interaction with government and the opposition based on the policies developed with Members” said Ms Capp.
Matthew’s experience includes key involvement in:

the development and negotiation of a new planning system in South Australia oriented to deliver certainty and clearer planning pathways to encourage investment;

helping to establish South Australia’s “Renewing Our Streets and Suburbs” Program which will enable the renewal of 4,500 Housing Trust homes located within 10km of Adelaide’s CBD; and
-
bringing to market the Adelaide Festival Plaza redevelopment, including $180 million of Government investment and $430 million of private sector investment and creating an anticipated 2,500 construction jobs and a further 400 ongoing jobs.
Matthew Kandelaars said, “I am looking forward to working within the Property Council to address some of the big issues impacting our communities. The property sector drives prosperity and jobs in Victoria and we need to be vigilant in ensuring that the policy and market settings remain relevant and supportive of this important industry”.
Matthew will commence with the Property Council in January 2018.
