Promise to Extend Sunday Trading in Perth Welcomed

  • September 13, 2017

The Property Council of Australia welcomes Premier Colin Barnett’s election pledge to extend Sunday trading hours from 11am to 9am openings in Perth.

“The retail sector has been calling out for consistency and clarity for years and finally the State government has listened,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.

“Consumers in Perth will finally have consistency throughout the week, avoiding the confusion and disappointment for many shoppers on Sundays.

“For too long Perth’s retailers have been held back by antiquated retail laws. Without the shackles of dated Sunday trading, Perth’s shopping centers can finally embrace modernity and provide better customer experiences seven days a week.

“For local communities, extended trading will mean more convenience and a greater choice of shopping destinations while boosting local economies through providing more employment and better access to amenities.

“Permitting an earlier opening for Sunday Trading will make better use of existing infrastructure like car-parks and overcome the congestion that occurs on Sundays around centres in Perth,” Mr Iacomella said.

The Property Council is calling on all parties contesting the state election to also commit to permitting a 9am opening for all shops on Sundays in Perth.
