New era of coastal development to drive WA economy

  • September 19, 2017

It’s time Perth embraced our biggest asset, through coastal developments that will create jobs, boost tourism, and drive the WA economy.

At a recent industry lunch hosted by the Property Council, delegates previewed four developments currently pipelined and under way for our coast.

“The Iconic Scarborough development will reinvigorate the Scarborough beach front and bring about its tourism potential. The development will create more than 200 jobs during construction and a further 400 once completed,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.

“The added amenity as well as increased parking and public space will bring together the local community and make Scarborough a world-class coastal destination.

“Further north, the proposed Sorrento Plaza is a far more modest build at just 5 storeys but has the potential to better connect the plaza with the beach as well as creating a vibrant and modern social hub.

“The best of the current offering will be staying on in the new development as well as the introduction of new food and beverage outlets.

Further north again, the Ocean Reef Marina has been a long time in the making, with original development plans submitted in 1978. The current concept plan boasts significant public space, as well as building ranging from three to nine storeys. The build time is expected to stake between 10 and 12 years contributing significantly to the local economy during that time.

“Heading South, the Port Coogee development is well under way. The aim of the development, which has been in the making since 1992, is to create a vibrant waterfront village, a distinct place with a diverse population and an engaging built form focused on the waterfront and public realm.

“These four projects will see West Australians making the most of our state’s best asset by enabling more people to live,  work and be entertained along our coastline,” Mr Iacomella said.
