Four candidates vying to become Melbourne’s next Lord Mayor have given the property industry a taste of how they will lead if elected, at the Property Council Business Lunch on Wednesday 19 October.
Going head of head on the key issues, Robert Doyle, Olivia Ball, Ken Ong and Phil Cleary presented their vision for Melbourne’s future.
Tackling homelessness was a universal issue for all candidates, who each presented different solutions to addressing the problem.
On the subject of the C270 Central City Built Form Review, incumbent mayor Robert Doyle called for a differentiation in planning regulations for commercial and residential development to ensure Melbourne has the commercial floor space to drive jobs growth going forward.
The Property Council has expressed concern regarding the prescriptive nature of the C270 planning scheme amendment and the likely impacts this will have on industry’s capacity to deliver future commercial projects.
Property Council Victorian Executive Director, Sally Capp, said our debate successfully flushed out the candidates’ positions on the big issues in the property industry.
“The Victorian industry now knows where they stand on future tax rates, apartment design regulations, addressing homelessness and the C270 reforms.
“We wish all candidates the best of luck with the election and encourage all City of Melbourne voters to vote.”
