Forrestfield-Airport Link to Drive Community Growth in Eastern Corridor

  • September 12, 2017

The Forrestfield-Airport Link will ignite precinct development in the eastern suburbs of Perth and will deliver significant economic and community benefits.

The $2.0 billion rail link project,  due to start later this year, includes the construction of a new Forrestfield train station,  which will be the first step in creating an attractive, vibrant and sustainable transit oriented precinct.

“The Forrestfield-Airport Link is much more than a ‘train to the airport’ project with the rail line crucial to driving growth and opportunities in the eastern corridor,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.

“Critical to promoting this growth is Forrestfield Train Station which will transform the eastern corridor   through a mixed-used activity centre that will generate local employment opportunities, boost the local economy and provide great amenity.”

“Estimates, provided by The Town Planning Group, point to these benefits by highlighting that development of Forrestfield Train Station will create more than 1500 new jobs and deliver $460 million of economic activity. This level of output is significant and will contribute to keeping WA growing.”

“The property industry is committed to growing strong communities which can be achieved through precinct development on sites like Forrestfield Train Station. Perth needs a network of activity centres connected by high quality and high frequency public transport. This will encourage a shift to a more connected, affordable and sustainable city.”

The Forrestfield-Airport Link was the subject of a Property Council breakfast this morning opened by the Hon Dean Nalder MLA, Minister for Agriculture and Food and Transport.

Speakers included Oliver Penman, Principal Urban Designer, TPG; Rhonda Hardy, Chief Executive Officer, Shire of Kalamunda, and Steve Holden, Executive General Manager of Property, Perth Airport.
