Bipartisanship welcomed on port payment

  • September 13, 2017

The Property Council has welcomed the State Opposition’s bipartisan support for securing Victoria’s full payment from the Commonwealth Asset Recycling Fund.

Victorian Executive Director Sally Capp said a united front was the best way to secure the $1.45 billion in Commonwealth funding owed to Victorian taxpayers.

“We welcome the strong leadership shown by the Leader of the State Opposition on this important matter,” said Mrs Capp.

“The Property Council was the first industry association to recommend leasing the Port and we believe the Commonwealth has an obligation to pay Victoria $1.45 billion for facilitating the lease.

“Victoria is presently suffering from a multi-billion dollar infrastructure backlog. The funds owed to our State are essential for Victoria dealing with its growth management challenge.
