There is a growing focus on accountability and integrity within government, supported by Australia’s integrity laws and the establishment of anti-corruption commissions at both the federal and state/territory levels. These laws do not only impact public servants – they apply to anyone contracting to government and you can be implicated in an inquiry simply by speaking to government officials, bidding or otherwise dealing with a government body.
Recently, we have seen anti-corruption commissions focus on procurement and this has involved scrutiny of private companies’ dealings with government. All businesses working with, or wanting to work with, the public sector need to be aware of their obligations and what these investigations could mean for you.
