Suburban Retrofits: A Global Insight
Suburban Retrofits: A Global Insight
4 June 2025 @ 17:00 - 19:00 AEST
$127.00Join us for an engaging afternoon with Professor Ellen Dunham-Jones, a leading global expert in suburban retrofitting, as she shares insights on successful adaptive reuse and mixed-use transformations of ageing suburban sites—including retail, industrial areas, office parks, and even an airport.
Co-author of Retrofitting Suburbia and Case Studies in Retrofitting Suburbia, Ellen was recently awarded the prestigious Seaside Prize with Professor June Williamson for their contributions to architecture, urban planning and community development.
Ellen is Director of the Master of Science in Urban Design at Georgia Tech, host of the Redesigning Cities podcast, and has been widely recognised for her influence in the field—including honours from Architectural Record, Planetizen, and the University of Illinois. She manages a database of over 2,500 suburban retrofit projects and is a Fellow and former board chair of the Congress for the New Urbanism, currently serving on the Urban Design Academic Council.
Joining Ellen will be a panel of local developers and planners, as they take us through their experience of retrofitting projects right here in Brisbane.
