DECLINING MENTAL ACUITY AND ISSUES ARISING
Residents’ independent capacity to live their own lives and make their own decisions Individually and collectively is at the heart of retirement village living. But there has been a dramatic change in the demographic make-up of villages, with residents ageing in place well into their 80s. Many residents experience diminishing acuity, some living with dementia. Operators are finding there are many challenges, such as how to keep resident committees and other resident-run activities going and how to enable residents to make the annual decisions required by law.
In this webinar, Garry Walters from Dementia Australia will present the data and discuss strategies to enhance residents’ lives and remove stigma. Natalie Patterson (Chief Operating Officer) and Justine Hughes (Chief Care Officer) from Aveo will give an operator’s perspective and outline policies and solutions they have developed in their villages. Dr Elizabeth Lanyon, Retirement Living Code of Conduct Panel Chair will moderate questions and answers, joined by Panel member Craig Bennett, President of the Retirement Village Residents Association Inc (NSW) enriching the session with lived experience.
