Cathy McGuane will be presenting as Keynote in our International Women’s Day event, which brings together industry colleagues to celebrate #IWD2025.
Cathy McGuane will speak candidly with Mackenzie Scott of The Australian and Kathy Mac Dermott of Mac Dermott Consultants as they explore their roles as women in senior leadership positions.
Cathy McGuane was Chair of Stadiums Qld for six and half years from 2018 – 2025. Stadiums Qld is a Statutory Authority that owns and manages major sports and entertainment venues and is worth over $4 billion. During her tenure as Chair and leading this organization there have been some significant milestones achieved, these include:
- A complete transformation of the SQ Strategy and Governance structure including the introduction of KPI’s on ESG, Customer Service and Stakeholder metrics that are now reported publicly.
- SQ led the world during Covid on getting crowds back into stadiums and hosting the major sporting codes seasons with the AFL and NRL Grand finals be held for the first (and most likely the last) time in Queensland. The State of Origin played in 2020 was the largest attended event in world at that time.
- Records have been set with the number of patrons attending our venues now over 5 million people and economic impact is $1.7 billion, the highest ever achieved
- Opening of the Townsville stadium and the huge economic and social impact that has bought to that community. Over $300 million in economic benefit.
- Customer satisfaction rating is 96% across the portfolio and Partner/stakeholder satisfaction rating is 95%
- Worked with Govt on the successful 2032 Games bid
- Successfully lobbied Govt for more funding in operational and capital funds to help sustain our future
- Established a Female Directors in Sports forum to support female directors to learn and connect with others.
Apart from her role at SQ, Cathy has had 30-year Senior Leadership career in financial services spanning banking, superannuation and health insurance is currently the Executive Manager Member Experience for TUH Health Fund. She established the Queensland of office of HESTA Superannuation are large industry super fund. She has Chaired the Qld Division of Association of Super Funds Australia (AFSA) and sat on their national board. She received an ASFA Award in recognition for her services to the industry in Qld.
Cathy is a successful author of the finance book called Financial Fitness for Kids and sold over 120000 copies.
She is a Graduate of AICD and member of Chief Executive Women.
