The Property Developers Act 2024 – and in particular, Developer Licensing – is the single biggest change to the way in which our sector is regulated in recent memory. The far-reaching nature of the legislation, the imposition of disproportionate accountability on developers for every aspect of the development, and the unintended consequences which threaten to stifle investment in our market, are concerning to say the least. With developments from a tri-occupancy through to a multi-storey apartment building captured by the legislation, it has a broad application and will impact many private investors and developers.
The legislation has passed, and while we are still waiting for the final regulations, the licensing scheme is coming.
