Keesja Gofers is a longstanding member of the Australian Women’s Water Polo player playing with a career spanning 15 years and over 250 games with the national team. She has World Championships bronze and silver medals as well as a slew of World Cup and World League medals to her name. She made her Olympic debut at the Rio Games in 2016, where the Stingers finished in 6th position. The same year and the following, she captained her club team, the Sydney Uni Lions, to back to back national water polo title. Keesja made her second Olympic appearance at the Tokyo Games, where the Aussie Stingers finished 5th. At this competition, Keesja ended the tournament in the top 10 for blocks, assists and sprints.Â
Keesja was also a member of the Paris 2024 Stingers team, who came home with the silver medal, after not one, not two but three penalty shoot outs! Between the Tokyo and Paris Games, Keesja and husband Scott had a daughter, Teleri, who both cheered on the Stingers and mum in Paris! Keesja is the first mother and Water Polo Olympic medallist for Australia.Â
