The Sunshine Coast is currently facing a shortfall of 2,000 hotel rooms, exacerbated by the influx of tourists and growing demand for accommodations. The increasing popularity of the region has placed additional strain on housing availability, making it more difficult for both residents and visitors to find space to live or stay.

To address these challenges, a new planning scheme and targeted hotel incentives were introduced, aimed at boosting the local accommodation capacity and easing the housing crunch. Speakers shared insights on how these initiatives will impact upcoming projects and whether they will be sufficient to meet the growing demands of both the tourism industry and the local population.

While overcoming these obstacles has never been more challenging, the collaborative effort to implement these solutions is seen as a positive step toward balancing the needs of the community and visitors alike. Attendees left with a better understanding of the future of the Sunshine Coast, and how they can play a role in shaping its development while ensuring it remains a welcoming place for all.
