Property Council’s Perth Crowning Jewels event attendees were treated to a panel of industry leaders who dived into the captivating world of the CBD, revealing the exciting opportunities that lie ahead through the lens of four major development projects.
Our expert panel featured Carolyn Hamilton (ECU), Randal Humich (Humich Group), Cliff Winby (Brookfield Properties), and Brad Martin (Fiveight), and the conversations were aptly moderated by Kylie Taylor (City of Perth).
With construction well underway for the new ECU city campus, Carolyn spoke of the transformative impact the university would have on the city, with young minds bringing vibrant energy and fostering innovation in the heart of Perth. With international students expected to be a key cohort for the university, Carolyn spoke of ECU’s active conversations with student accommodation providers to meet the needs of this growing sector.
Randal Humich emphasised the crucial role of vision and collaboration in revitalizing neglected corners of the CBD. Challenging the status quo, he pushed attendees to think differently about the use of space. In saying that “a shop doesn’t have to be a shop,” he highlighted the potential for alternative activations, such as the recent Strange Festival, to breathe new life into these areas.
Cliff Winby incised the audience with visions for a brewery in Elizabeth Quay, outlining Brookfield’s ongoing commitment to delivering a vibrant waterfront precinct. By integrating offices, residences, and retail spaces, all while offering stunning views of the river, Brookfield’s vision is for Elizabeth Quay to be a place where tenants and residents can enjoy a high-quality experience and cement it as a place people do more than visit; they work, play and stay.
Brad Martin emphasised the importance of connectivity in outlining Fiveight’s vision to bring retail spaces and experiences together, by connecting the CBD arterials. He spoke of the need for Carillion City to take on a new identity and adapt to cater to the influx of students the new city campus will bring. He agreed there is an excellent opportunity to engage with the river to drive connection to places like the zoo and called for unique experiences in Perth.
The speakers undoubtedly left attendees with high hopes for Perth’s bright future, and we eagerly anticipate the upcoming projects that will shape the city for the better.
