NSW Future of Living Series: Purpose Built Student Accommodation

A fantastic evening for our first event in the Future of Living Series, bringing together government, and industry to explore the opportunities and challenges facing the Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) sector.

With 40 per cent of international students choosing NSW as their place to study, and international education contributing billions to the Australian economy, PBSA plays a vital role in supporting one of our most valuable sectors, while also helping to relieve pressure on the private rental market.

While Australia is bucking the trend of declining international student interest seen in the US, UK and Canada, confidence in the sector has taken a hit over the past 12 months, with political rhetoric, rising taxes, fees and charges continuing to weigh heavily on an industry that is delivering critical choice and supply for students.

We heard strong insights from Anouk Darling of Scape, Andrew Purdon of CBRE and Toshi Kawaguchi of Study NSW on the need for a more enabling policy environment, investment appetite and the untapped potential of PBSA in addressing Australia’s housing and education goals.

A big thank you to event sponsor KONE and venue host Allens for partnering with us for this event.
