The Property Council has provided comment on the Environmental Protection and Other Legislation Amendment Bill, primarily addressing proposed amendments to the Environmental Offsets Act 2014.
Despite two years of consultation on issues within the Environmental Offsets Act, the Property Council continues to hold significant concerns that the legislation will fail to deliver the offsets framework intended by the Government.
The proposed amendments fail to address the Property Council’s primary concerns regarding the ongoing duplication of offset requirements across levels of government, and the imposition of a standard offset cost on local governments, with no allowance for charging less than the capped amount.
