Lands Minister Ben Wyatt joined Seniors and Ageing Minister Mick Murray on 14 August to mark the beginning of construction at Oryx’s aged care development The Queenslea at Claremont on the Park.

Oryx has selected Property Council WA member Multiplex to build the project. The Queenslea showcases an innovative concept that helps to balance the need for increased density development in Perth with an increased range of diverse housing options for buyers. This is particularly important for older buyers wanting to right-size as their care needs become more pressing as they age. Right-sizing older buyers opens up opportunities for younger buyers and the property industry at the same time.

While apartments are not a new concept, The Queenslea development demonstrates the benefits to the industry and community when planning authorities, in this case LandCorp, provide a clear framework that encourages and allows for a diverse range of residential options in prime locations.

When complete, The Queenslea will have 115 residential aged care units and will also house support and child care services to cater for 80 children.

Construction of The Queenslea is due for completion in 2021.
