Housing Trust is a not-for-profit community-based organisation that began in 1983 with a goal to reduce homelessness throughout the Illawarra. Our vision is ‘a decent home for everyone’ meaning; we strive to maintain the human dignity of those most in need, by working towards creating new beginnings and providing a voice for the voiceless.
As a Tier 1 Registered Community Housing Provider (CHP), we provide long-term affordable housing to people on very low to moderate incomes, via a mix of social and affordable housing. Social housing caters to people on very low-to-low incomes that may be experiencing ‘housing stress’, with affordable housing designed to address the gap between social housing and the private market. Housing Trust also provides crisis and boarding accommodation to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
With a current portfolio of over 1,100 homes either owned, leased or managed, the Housing Trust plans to collaborate with valued partners to deliver an extra 2,400 homes across the Illawarra region over the next five years. We are committed to building vibrant, inclusive communities by working with state and local government, local councils, private property owners and developers to achieve this goal.
As a registered charity, Housing Trust strives to enhance the health, wellbeing, education and employment opportunities of our tenants. We provide grassroots tenancy management, offer proactive advice and referral support services to help tenants secure and maintain their tenancies. Because we care and deliver on our promises, we have an overall customer satisfaction rate of 87%.
