Focus on Gold Coast Tourism
The Queensland Government has made two major announcements regarding tourism opportunities on the Gold Coast- the opening of registrations of interest (ROI’s) for a new tourism hub, and the release of a draft master plan for The Spit.
ROI’s have been called for a Global Tourism Hub that will include:
- New entertainment venues
- Convention space
- High-end dining and retail experiences and
- Luxury hotels
A Gold Coast Tourism Advisory Panel will be established to advise Government throughout the procurement process, and provide community feedback on the design, scope and location of the project.
Registrations of interest close on 17 April 2019 and expressions of interest are due to open in mid-2019. For more information, visit the Government’s website.
Following the release of ‘The Spit Master Plan options report’ in October 2018, the Queensland Government has released the draft master plan for The Spit and is seeking feedback from both industry and community members.
The Property Council provided feedback to the Government outlining the need for greater flexibility in planning restrictions within the existing urban footprint, which would allow for a greater activation of The Spit and catalyse the development of connecting infrastructure.
Transport connectivity on The Spit, along with long-term built form developments, would assist in creating a world-class tourism, leisure and recreational precinct.
The Property Council will provide an updated response to Government, addressing the draft master plan.
For more information or to provide feedback visit the Government’s website.
Consultation closes on 31 March 2019.
