Infrastructure Partnerships Australia discussion paper
The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the release of Infrastructure Partnerships Australia’s report “From Housing Assets to Housing People”.
“The Property Council does not normally comment on public housing as our focus is on the broader issue of housing affordability and the operation of the housing market. However, it is clear that the funding of public housing is in dire need of reform”, said Ken Morrison, Chief Executive of the Property Council of Australia.
“This is a substantive work by Infrastructure Partnerships Australia that seeks to start a worthy debate about what is the best way to fund a strong, functioning public housing sector on a sustainable basis.
“Public housing is recognition that society owes a duty of care to its most vulnerable. As pragmatists, our challenge is to identify the best way to use taxpayer dollars and assets and at the same time, ensure the system provides public housing tenants with comfort, certainty and confidence.”
