Green Star Office Buildings - The way of the future?
Thursday 14th
September saw 150 young people in property gather to listen
to Angus Harvey Ross (Corporate Property) and Andrew Borger
(Leighton Properties) talk about increasingly popular
environmentally friendly green star office buildings.
From a property developer’s perspective, Andrew Borger spoke
about the 400 George Street development which he hopes will
score a 5, or higher, on the green star ratings tool
measurement. The video presentation that accompanied his
speech showed the energy efficiency, water recycling and
natural light initiatives which have been included in the
design of the 400 George Street, that he hopes will gain
enough green ticks to secure this rating.
From a tenant’s point of view, Angus Harvey Ross explained
the attributes tenants are looking for in an environmentally
friendly building, in particular, the specific design
initiatives employed by the developer. He also spoke about
environmentally friendly initiatives that have recently been
employed by Westpac and the Brisbane City Council. Both
organisations have identified the need to be socially
responsible in terms of ensuring the sustainability of the
environment and as such, various strategies including the
monitoring of paper and water waste and the efficient use of
energy have been implemented to ensure these
responsibilities are met.
The Property Council of Australia, Queensland Division,
again thanks Consolidated Properties for their sponsorship
of the Future Directions: young people in property brand in
2006/07.
