THE BARRACKS PRECINCT
Walking along Caxton Street to the football will never be
the same again once the Petrie Barracks Precinct is
complete. About 200 young property professionals gathered at
this month’s Future Directions event to hear how this
dormant and derelict precinct would be transformed into an
upmarket retail, commercial and leisure precinct, with over
10,000m2 of office space already pre committed to Hatch
Engineering.
The night was 'kicked off' with Kevin Miller (Managing
Director - Property Solutions Group) and David Bewerly
(Development Manager – QM Properties), who gave an insight
into the commercial success of the development and QM
Properties' intention to retain the property post
completion.
Andrew Gutteridge (Director - Arkhefield) then stole the
show with his colourful and detailed presentation of the
development, which highlighted how “new can meet old” in a
stylish and complimentary manner.
Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor David Hinchliffe then spoke of
his long standing aspirations for the site and how excited
he was that the development had finally been given the
go-ahead after 17 years.
Andrew spoke in depth, and David reconfirmed, the successful
collaborative approach between all stakeholders to deliver a
commercially viable, yet respectful outcome to a site which
is heavily constrained and rich in heritage.
Future Directions applauds this approach and hopes the
Council and other regulatory authorities continue to work
with developers as Brisbane evolves, and the Urban Renewal
visions are delivered.
On behalf of the Future Directions Committee and all
attendees, we would like to thank all of the evening's
speakers for a fantastic and informing presentation.
